United African Association (UAA)

Volunteer & Get Involved

Use your time, skills or experience to strengthen the community

Volunteers are central to UAA. People support the Food Larder, community lunches, welcoming spaces, youth activities, sport, allotment, administration, outreach, events and cultural programmes.

For some people, volunteering is also part of their own journey. Several UAA case studies describe people who first came for food or crisis support and later became volunteers once their situation became more stable.

  • Make a practical difference locally.
  • Meet people from different backgrounds.
  • Build confidence and experience.
  • Develop transferable skills.
  • Share professional or community knowledge.
  • Become part of a supportive local network.

Some roles involve children, vulnerable adults or confidential information. UAA therefore uses induction, references, safeguarding preparation and DBS checks where appropriate to the role.
