United African Association (UAA)

About United African Association

United African Association (UAA) is a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation based in Northamptonshire. Established in 2014, UAA supports African communities and the wider migrant population while delivering activities that are open to the wider community. Our work combines practical welfare support with food provision, health and wellbeing, youth activities, sport, digital and employment support, volunteering, cultural programmes and community connection.

Why our work matters

Many people who approach UAA face more than one pressure at the same time. Low income, food insecurity, housing instability, limited English, unfamiliarity with UK systems, NRPF, poor health, unemployment, digital exclusion and isolation can reinforce one another. UAA provides a trusted first point of contact. We respond to immediate needs, help people understand practical next steps, advocate where appropriate and connect people with specialist or statutory services when a need falls outside our remit.

What makes UAA different

  • Trusted community presence: people often come to UAA through word of mouth, referrals or because someone they know has already been helped.
  • Practical and connected support: a person may receive food, digital help, employment support, befriending and a referral through the same organisation.
  • Culturally aware delivery: UAA understands how language, confidence, migration experience and culture can affect access to mainstream services.
  • Community participation: many volunteers have themselves used UAA services and later choose to give time back to others.
  • Partnership rather than duplication: UAA connects people to regulated or specialist support where necessary.
