On Saturday (23rd May), we celebrated Africa Day together, and it was wonderful to see so many people from different backgrounds coming together for a day of culture, learning and community spirit.
We started the event with a fun Africa-themed quiz before lunch, which encouraged people to work together in groups, learn new facts and enjoy friendly competition. It was a great way to bring people together and create conversations.
We were pleased to welcome representatives from Northamptonshire Police, who spoke about their commitment to supporting our community and building stronger relationships with local residents. We also heard about our new Age Well programme, which provides free support to older people through activities, companionship, help with shopping, and assistance with other everyday needs.
After lunch, Lily from Ghana and two young dancers treated us to a beautiful traditional dance performance. Lily explained the meaning behind the dance, the song and the traditional attire, helping everyone learn more about Ghanaian culture and heritage.
Children also enjoyed colouring activities, toys and games throughout the day, ensuring there was something for all ages to enjoy.
Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, performed and contributed to making Africa Day such a special and memorable celebration. Together, we celebrated culture, community, friendship and the rich diversity that makes our community stronger.
