Brief on Africa Day Celebration

The United African Association (UAA) recently hosted a vibrant Africa Day celebration on Saturday, 24th May 2025 at the Leicester street community room in Northampton, bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds to commemorate the rich cultural heritage of Africa. The event was a resounding success, featuring a range of engaging activities that showcased the continent’s unique traditions and customs.

The celebration kicked off with a series of thought-provoking talks on various topics, including dementia awareness presented by Northampton Black community Together (NBCT) and the importance of natural beauty, with a focus on glowing naturally. These discussions were designed to educate and enlighten attendees on pressing issues affecting the African community, while also promoting holistic well-being.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to sample a diverse array of traditional cuisine from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Zimbabwe. This culinary journey allowed attendees to experience the rich flavours and aromas of African cuisine, with dishes ranging from spicy jollof rice to Sadza and sweet potatoes.

In addition to the food, the celebration featured a lively programme of music and dance performances, showcasing the vibrant cultural heritage of Africa. Guests were treated to traditional dance steps, including the elegant Flavor-Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix), which got everyone on their feet and dancing.

To further enhance the festive atmosphere, attendees participated in a range of fun-filled games and activities, designed to promote unity and camaraderie. These interactive sessions provided a welcome opportunity for guests to mingle and connect with one another, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. Overall, the African Day celebration hosted by the UAA was a resounding success, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Africa.
