The United African Association (UAA) celebrates African culture, history and traditions while creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds and generations to come together, learn from one another and build stronger relationships.
Through community events, heritage projects and intergenerational activities, we help people stay connected to their cultural identity while encouraging understanding, inclusion and a shared sense of belonging.
Our heritage activities provide opportunities to share and celebrate the richness and diversity of African cultures through:
These activities give people an opportunity to celebrate their heritage with pride and introduce the wider community to African cultures and traditions.
An important part of our work is creating opportunities for older and younger generations to connect.
Older community members can share their knowledge, experiences, stories and traditions with children and young people, helping to preserve cultural heritage for future generations.
In return, younger people bring new ideas, perspectives and skills, creating meaningful connections across generations.
Our events are open and welcoming to people from all backgrounds.
By bringing African communities and the wider local community together, we help to:
UAA regularly uses music, drumming, dancing, food, sport and community celebrations to bring people together.
These events provide enjoyable and informal opportunities for people to meet, experience different cultures and take part in activities together.
Everyone is encouraged to participate, whether they already have experience of African culture and traditions or are discovering them for the first time.
We believe cultural heritage is something to be celebrated, shared and passed on.
Through our heritage and community cohesion work, UAA helps people maintain connections with their roots while building positive relationships across cultures, ages and communities.
