WELFARE SERVICES

Practical Support, Advocacy and Signposting

The United African Association (UAA) provides confidential, practical and compassionate support to individuals and families facing difficult situations.

We understand that problems with housing, immigration, finances, family circumstances or personal safety can feel overwhelming. Our Welfare Services help people understand their options, access the right services and make sure their voices are heard.

How We Can Help

Our team can provide support, advocacy, information and signposting across a range of issues, including:

  • Domestic abuse – providing a safe and supportive first point of contact and helping people access specialist domestic abuse services.
  • Immigration – helping people understand where to access regulated immigration advice and connecting them with appropriate legal or specialist services.
  • Housing and homelessness – support with housing concerns, risk of homelessness, unsuitable accommodation and referrals to relevant agencies.
  • Debt and financial hardship – helping people access specialist debt advice, benefits information and other financial support.
  • Benefits and welfare support – assistance with understanding available support and finding organisations that can help with applications or enquiries.
  • Accessing public services – helping people communicate with councils, health services and other organisations.
  • Referrals and signposting – connecting individuals with trusted specialist organisations when further professional support is required.

Advocacy

Sometimes people know what help they need but find it difficult to communicate with services or understand complicated processes.

Where appropriate, UAA can advocate on behalf of individuals, help them prepare for appointments, understand correspondence and communicate their concerns to relevant organisations.

Our aim is to help people feel more confident, informed and able to make decisions about their own circumstances.

A Safe and Welcoming Service

We support people from a wide range of backgrounds, including migrants, refugees, families, older people and individuals experiencing hardship or isolation.

Our approach is respectful, non-judgemental and person-centred. We listen to each person’s circumstances and work with them to identify the most appropriate next steps.

Working With Specialist Services

UAA works alongside and refers people to a range of professional and community organisations.

Where an issue requires specialist legal, immigration, housing, debt, safeguarding or other professional advice, we will help individuals connect with an appropriately qualified service.

UAA does not provide regulated legal or immigration advice. Our role is to provide practical support, advocacy and access to appropriate specialist services.

You Don’t Have to Deal With It Alone

If you are experiencing a problem and are unsure where to turn, speak to our team.

We will listen, help you understand what support may be available and work with you to find the right way forward.
